Throughout the year, this page will be updated monthly with a new story about the photo featured in the respective month of the Tom Burns Photography 2025 Calendar.

At the Totally Buffalo Festival in May, I was having a nice conversation with someone in my booth, and she said she loved that I had a story about every image she asked about. Oddly enough, I usually do. I can remember the moments around each image or what inspired me to be at the place where the image was captured.

Now, for the sites that are more frequently visited, the individual visits don’t always have a unique story.

The image featured in June 2025 is one of those images. Taken in 2016, it is the oldest image in the 2025 calendar. Because I’ve made numerous trips to Niagara Falls, I don’t remember many specifics from this evening. The photo was taken in November, after my wife and I had taken our daughter back to her residence hall at Niagara University.

I knew we would have time to swing by the Falls, which are always spectacular. As usual, the Falls didn’t disappoint.

Now, the side story to this image: after visiting the Falls that evening, I posted about ten images from the night, but this one wasn’t among them. In fact, I didn’t share it for three years. In 2019, a potential client contacted me looking for Niagara Falls images they might be able to use for marketing purposes. I dug into my archives and found this image. That client used it, and a second client licensed it for use in their marketing and advertising as well.

In fact, while working the Lewiston Art Festival a couple of years ago, a lady purchased a couple of prints and paid with her debit/credit card from Cornerstone FCU. I was taken aback when I noticed that the card featured this image. That was pretty cool to see.

One last note about this image: the Niagara Falls shoot came at the end of a long photo day that started with three separate family portrait sessions in the morning.

So, when I said earlier that this image didn’t have a story, I guess I was wrong.

Enjoy!
